We interrupt this regularly scheduled blog to shout my news (if you’re tired of hearing about it, I’ll see you back here next week when we continue talking about our Village cronies).
It’s been a lifelong dream to write and publish a book, and to see it finally coming true is still sinking in. But what makes it even sweeter is that it’s coming true as part of a bigger picture. It’s not just me getting a book out there. It’s getting a book out there as part of a ministry that reaches beyond entertainment to doing life together, helping each other over the mountains, lifting each other out of the valleys. This makes all those rejections worthwhile. God has a way of surprising us, doesn’t He?
Choose NOW Ministries is dedicated to guiding parents and teens to victorious relationships and good choices. I love that! Having raised 2 kids into adulthood, I can look back and thank God for being there every step of the way as they waded through middle school, high school, and college. Having a ministry Like Choose NOW available to offer advice, encouragement and information from a solid Christian foundation would have been a really valuable tool. I’m so glad it’s available now for those parents coming up behind me.
So, now that you know a teeny bit about the amazing ministry I’ll be a teeny part of, here’s a little blurb about my debut novel, a contemporary inspirational romance, coming out mid-summer 2014:
Fired from her job as a high-profile spokesmodel, Kiera Simmons flees New York for Minnesota, determined to regain her faith and build a normal life outside the glare of celebrity. She develops a program for teens to combat the world’s distorted view of significance with the reality of a loving God. On the brink of stardom, singer/ songwriter Peter Theisen is determined to make it big and prove the naysayers wrong despite an ill-tempered manager and the beautiful former model who invades his dreams.
Faced with the rising costs of her beloved father’s illness, along with threats from her jailed former boyfriend, Kiera’s only option would sweep her back into the glare of celebrity. The consequences could destroy her father’s health, undermine the message she shares with teens, and extinguish the fragile spark of love she shares with Peter.
When they discover the cold emptiness of reaching their dreams alone, can they find their way back to each other and to the One who matters most? Or is the allure of wealth and fame too strong to resist?
I have long been saddened by the message society sends to our kids (and us adults, as well) that we aren’t perfect just the way we are – we need to be better, prettier, richer, etc. Writing this book is my way of saying we ARE perfect just the way we are – the way God made us. It’s our God-image that matters, but that message gets buried in the onslaught of “reality” TV shows, magazines, celebrity news, and the constant buzz of social media. So I want to do what I can to counter that problem. In my corner of the world, anyway.
Okay, I’ll get off my soapbox. Thanks for being on the journey with me. Now go check out Choose NOW Ministries (listen to one of her radio show podcasts, read a post by one of the varied experts, and check out Nicole’s books). This lovely woman knows her stuff! I guarantee you’ll find valuable information for you and those you love.
